UAE company formation is often marketed as a two-day process. The reality is that a fully operational UAE business — with a licensed company, bank account, investor visa and compliant accounting — takes 4—8 weeks from decision to operational. Here is the honest timeline, step by step.
Week 1: Decision and Structure
The single most important week. Choose the wrong structure and you may spend months and significant cost correcting it. During week 1, PRF conducts a structure consultation covering: mainland vs free zone analysis; which zone or emirate best fits your activity; tax implications of each structure; banking feasibility for your chosen structure; and the right corporate form. Output: a clear setup recommendation and fixed quotation.
Week 1-2: Document Preparation and Application
Once the structure decision is made, document preparation begins. For most free zone setups: passport and visa copies, utility bill, application forms, business plan summary, proposed company name, and activity description. Mainland setups require additional documents depending on the activity. PRF prepares and submits the application, including company name reservation.
Week 2-3: License Issued
Most free zone trade licenses are issued within 5—10 business days of application. Mainland licenses vary by activity — some are issued in 3 days, others (regulated activities, professional licenses) can take 2—3 weeks. PRF reviews the license on issue to ensure accuracy before you sign off.
Week 3-5: Residence Visa
Investor visa application begins after the license is issued. Medical examination, biometric registration and Emirates ID processing typically take 7—14 business days. Emirates ID is required for most banking applications. Family visas can be applied for simultaneously once the investor visa is stamped. PRF coordinates all appointments.
Week 4-8: Corporate Bank Account
This is where patience is most required. Bank account opening for a new UAE company takes anywhere from 2 weeks (neobanks) to 8—12 weeks (major retail banks). PRF advises on the right bank for your profile, prepares a comprehensive documentation package, and manages the application process. In parallel, a Wio or similar neobank account can be opened to provide immediate banking capability.
Week 3-4 (Parallel): Accounting and Compliance Setup
While the visa and bank account are in progress, PRF sets up your accounting framework: chart of accounts, VAT registration (if applicable), corporate tax registration, cloud accounting system configuration. By the time your bank account is operational, your accounting is ready to record the first transaction correctly.
The Realistic Summary
Day 1-3: Structure decision and documentation. Day 5-10: License issued. Day 10-24: Visa processing. Day 14-60: Bank account (varies significantly). Day 10-20: Accounting setup and compliance registrations. Most clients are fully operational — licensed, resident, banked and compliant — within 6—8 weeks of engaging PRF. The process is faster for clients who are already in Dubai and can attend appointments quickly.
